Well ahead of the game, season 2 began filming even before the first ever episode of the show was screened.

Gina Carano, who plays ex-shocktrooper Cara Dune in the show, revealed at the start of March 2020 that filming was now complete for the second series.  “I absolutely love this work and the people in it,” she wrote on Instagram.

The only name confirmed to return is Pedro Pascal (aka Game of Thrones‘ Oberyn Martell), who plays the show’s lead and pilot of the Razorcrest gunship.

Her Instagram post confirming that filming has wrapped also confirms Gina Carano for a return. It’s also expected that Carl Weathers (who plays Greef) , and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, who voices robot IG-88, will also return.

One confirmed name for the new season is Rosario Dawson, who will portray Star Wars fan favourite Ahsoka Tano. The character has appeared multiple times across the Star Wars universe, first popping up as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan in The Clone Wars.

There has also been speculation that season 2 of The Mandalorian could also feature a surprise WWE crossover, with Sasha Banks reportedly joining the cast.

We’re also assuming that no second series could be complete without the return of the viral Baby Yoda, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Details are very sparse about what storyline directions season 2 might take. One very exciting update, though, comes from Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon.

Speaking at a Fan Expo in Canada recently, Esposito promised “major, major, epic, epic lightsaber action in the second series (via Comic Book).

That is excellent news! I was strongly convinced to watch the first season, and to my surprise, I really enjoyed it. Hope Season 2 is just as good as I stopped having faith in anything related to Star Wars for the longest time. This series just might give me back some faith again.

Add The Mandalorian to the list of TV shows and movies soldiering on with post-production despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While many other high-profile projects had to shut down completely, the digital artists behind the first live-action Star Wars series are continuing to put the finishing touches on the show’s upcoming second season. And more importantly, they insist that the new episodes will still debut this fall as originally planned.

While speaking with Variety, director Rick Famuyiwa and animation supervisor Hal Hickel explained how they’re adjusting to their new status quo of working remotely. Famuyiwa is obviously no stranger to the series, having helmed “The Child” and “The Prisoner” from season 1. However, he admitted that the current state of the world has made his experience “more all-consuming than usual.”

“We’ve been hunkered down in the post process,” said Famuyiwa. “It’s been a challenging and great experience so far. But it’s good to have that to take my mind away from the daily madness that we’re living at the moment.”

Additionally, Hickel laid out how rendering The Mandlorian’s many VFX shots differs from working on other big-budget Hollywood productions.

“A big tentpole summer film, like say Avengers, might be around 2,000 visual effects shots,” Hickel said. “And these series are a little shy of 4,000 visual effects shots for season 1; and season 2 is no different. We’re doing them in around the same amount of time, maybe even less time, than a big summer film, plus we all have to work remotely. We’re in the middle of that tsunami now, but we’re going to get it all done. People are going to get their Baby Yoda, I promise.”

The Mandalorian season 2 will arrive on Disney+ in October.

The cast for Disney+’s hit  Star Wars  spin-off series  The Mandalorian  is growing with another Hollywood gunslinger in the form of  Justified  and  Once Upon a Time in Hollywood  star Timothy Olyphant, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Though it’s currently unclear as to whether Olyphant is set to portray a new character in the  Star Wars  universe or take on the mantle of a fan-favorite character, sources have confirmed that the 51-year-old Emmy nominee will appear in the super secretive second season of the Pedro Pascal-starring series.

Recent revelations of the second season of  The Mandalorian  have revealed that the returns of Temuera Morrison ( Aquaman ) as Boba Fett, Katee Sackhoff as  The Clone Wars ‘ Bo-Katan in live-action form and will reportedly feature the live-action debut of Jedi Padawan turned Rebel Alliance spymaster Ahsoka Tano with Rosario Dawson ( Zombieland: Double Tap ) in talks to portray the fan-favorite character, though the star recently confirmed that the deal is not yet sealed on the part.

In addition to the announce of Boba Fett joining the character roster, multiple directors recently confirmed their involvement on the new season, including Robert Rodriguez ( Alita: Battle Angel ) and  Ant-Man  franchise director Peyton Reed, who joined the that already includes the returns of Rick Famuyiwa ( Dope ), Dave Filoni, Carl Weathers and Jon Favreau ( The Lion King ).
