Star Trek Original and Next Generation Series covers

Postby stardragon9 » Apr Fri 17, 2020 2:03 pm

Here is a preview of what I am attempting with the Star Trek Original Series covers (eventually I will start on the Next Generation as well):

With the front image, I found a series textless book covers an thought they would make fantastic blu ray cover artwork.  I will work on the title logo next.  Let me know what you think (the back will probably be a plain white but that could change).

Glad people like the direction so far.  Here are a couple options for the title on the front.  The first on I was trying to recreate the style from the original vhs.  With the second version, I tried using a solid color (I like the yellow but that can change).

Version 1:

Version 2:

Let me know which one you like better (or if you can think of a better color than yellow on the second one).

I like both options, but I might prefer the first title better. If you decide to go with the second choice, maybe try orange? The original DVD copy that I have is a light orange and works well with all 3 seasons. Obviously, it will depend on the other front cover images that you will be using as you probably want to keep the same color.

And that's my 2 cents. :D

I know the dvds you are talking about.  I will try orange on the logo and see how it looks.   ;)

I think I finally nailed down the font for the Star Trek logo:

Here is the logo colored orange for comparison sake:

I like the first one better.  I darkened the colors a little bit, in order to see them better.  I also reduced the size of the silver edges.  I have a couple ideas for the emblem on the spine.  I'll show those in the next update (I will also make sure to center the logo on the front better).

I like the first one but maybe with the colors a little more saturated, especially on the title. :D

Thanks ct for the suggestion.  I agree now that it looks much better.  I will keep in mind that I need to add a little bit of saturation to the logo and front photo.

I also added 'The Original Series' and 'Season One' to the front and the spine.  I tried using different colors but the white just seems to show better.  I may tweak that a little bit (I would like to use a solid color on those phrases just to have them different from the main logo).

Everything is coming together nicely.  I will start on constructing the back, which should not take long (I hope).

Thanks.  Here is an updated version of the cover, with added photos on the back:

I think it is turning out nicely.  Maybe a few too many photos on back though.  Let me know what you think.   :)

Here is the new update:

I changed a couple of the photos to more iconic episodes.  I have also added the synopsis (I am going to mess with the information a little).  The blur text is going to be the Episode listing, just like I had for the Animated series.  So far this is shaping up.

I'm going to double check over a couple of things, but I think it is ready for upload.  What do you think?

Maybe make the pictures smaller - all in a row - and add some credits?

I don't really want to add credits because the cast, directors and writers change so much over the course of a season.  The only names I would have would be the main cast (Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu, Scotty and Uhura).  That is why I didn't have credits when I made the cover for the animated series.  You could actually fill the back cover with nothing but a cast and crew list.  I may try taking one of the pictures away, so that things do not look so cramped at the top (I want to try and keep the cast photo, however).  Thank you for the suggestion though.   :)
