What's available at your local library?

Postby chouette » Feb Fri 14, 2020 3:48 pm

Hello folks, I have a question for everyone.

I had a discussion with Foggy about what's available at your local library on top of books. For example, here in Canada (and I would think all provinces), we have DVD discs available on top of books, magazines, etc. I can borrow any movies or TV Series at no cost that are released on discs. When I say at no cost, in reality, these DVDs are bought with the tax payers' money. With that said, we would still have to pay the same amount of tax even if they would not purchase the DVDs, but the tax would just be distributed differently.

So my question here is... does your local library offer DVDs as well as the books? I know Pam has that luxury, but Foggy is telling me that they don't in Texas. So it's easy to assume that not all States has them. What about your library? I'm pretty sure it's all about how they distribute the tax within the State because that's where the money is taken from, but just wondering which States has the DVDs or not.

:D

You are such a drama queen Wrench, lol - I've checked a few libraries in California, and I don't think any of them has DVDs.

I'm with you Star and Pam, I love that we're able to have access to such a great collection of DVDs. It's the best! You're lucky both States has them Pam.

We have all media, e-books, free internet, cheap printing via laser.  It's networked and online so even things they don't have they can get in for you from other Libraries in the network.  The website makes it nice to see what is there before you go, reserve or make requests.  They have a Bookmobile too which will deliver and pickup if you are like elderly or disabled.  I haven't been there in years, I guess my card is still good they never expire as far as I know.

Trois-Rivières must have a bigger budget than Ottawa as we don't have Blu-Rays, lol - We do have music CDs though.

That's pretty good what you guys have CT, but you might have to renew that card. I don't know how it works in the U.S., but we have to renew our library card each year. It's no big deal really. All they ask is if you are still at the same address, same phone, etc. They don't even ask for proof, and away we go for another year, lol

I'm in Washington with Pam but a different library system. We have access to pretty much anything. On the DVD front we can even request items that are not in the system. In most cases they will just purchase the requested item. If for some reason they don't then they hunt for the item across the county and have it loaned to them. It's pretty cool.
