Postby Sarge » Sep Sun 02, 2018 5:20 am

OK here is the debate, should one get Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processor when using Adobe Photoshop?    :-|

ideally it would depend on which of the processors your going for...(as in which series of the i7 or ryzen 7 series). I would suggest doing a benchmark test against the two you would consider buying.
Ideally I would go for the i7..buts that's just my two cents...sure someone else will be able to give a more cohesiveness answer

This would probably be of good help: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/

I'm a Intel guy.

Main frames have taught us that there is no such thing as too many cores lol.

Still I've found that processors today are so fast they are really no longer the weak link in a system and have less to do with overall performance than other components.

The Speed Crushers are, in order:

1. The Motherboard is number one, it has to be well designed and fast else everything you hook to it (including the processor) will perform poorly as it will become the bottle neck.

2. Next is the Hard drive storage it has to be solid state for the OS and they are not all created equal, so research that too.

3. Last is Memory you have to have enough and it has to be fast or the other two are for naught lol.

I don't know what mother board it has but is has Intel Optane installed on it, an Intel i7-8700 processor clocked at 4.6 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive, I have a digital hard drive in my old computer that I can steal and install in the new computer, the graphic's card is NVIDIA GeForce GT1030 2GB GDDR5, I also have two USB 3.0 cards which I can install to add more ports if needed.  Has to be allot better than my 12 year old home built.  Yes I do have a iMac 5K also.  :-|

Well as usual my bad luck is always there,   :-l   had to return new computer for an I/O Front Cable failure error notice on boot up, so now for less money I can up date my original home built to the newer standards.  So new Asus-ROC STRIX B450-F ATX AM4 Motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7, 8 Core, 2700X, 3.7 GHz chip with Corsair Hydro Water Cooling and Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR-4-3000 (4x8GB) 32GB RAM.  Hope to be up and running before the New Year, lol.  I get keep my old hard drives, (250GB and 500GB), since 90% of my work is stored on 3 each, 2TB external drives and a 4TB My Book.   :-$
