I had one, in my teens, back when they were green. Got so tired of changing the plastic line I rigged it with guitar string. Worked great, but not a very safe way to go.

Only you would think of something like that Fog. I kinda like the idea, maybe with some heave gauge mechanics wire.
Might just give that a try to cut back the black berry vines.

I doubt I was the first to try it.

It did make pretty sparks when it hit rocks or bricks or concrete, though.

Problem is, it wears out as fast, or faster, than the plastic line did. No question it cut the rough stuff better, but hitting rocks can make it break. Then you have flying metal needles. :-!
