Ridley Scott: Digitally De-Aged Sigourney

As you know, Ridley Scott has got big plans for the Alien franchise and he's ready to make six more films after Alien: Covenant if the audience wants it. These films are said to be leading up to the events in the 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien.

In a recent interview with Empire, the filmmaker reveals that he has two more films being planned that will lead right into his original film. When it does get to that point, we might see a young version of Ellen Ripley again and Scott says that he's open to using a digitally de-aged version of Sigourney Weaver. The report says:

"Scott will, it seems, be holding back some of his gruesome notions for future installments: he is planning at least two more films before linking up with the original Alien. "Right now we've got a ten-page synopsis," he reveals. 'John Logan's doing it. And we know where we're going with it.' He is not ruling out the idea of using a digitally de-aged Sigourney Weaver to bring back Ripley: 'You could do that,' he allows. And Logan promises 'different mutations' of the Alien to come."

I have no issues of seeing a digitally de-aged version of Weaver, Marvel did an incredible job de-aging Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War and then Lucasfilm also did some amazing work when they digitally de-aged Carrie Fisher for Rogue One. The technology is there and it's going to get a lot better by the time Scott gets around to making the second of these two films he has planned. We just don't know how big of a role Ripley would play in the story if Scott does decide to include the character.

Makes me wonder if that means we'll see digital versions of the other crew members of the Nostromo starship as well. What do you all think about the possibility of seeing a digitally de-aged Sigourney Weaver in a future Alien movie?

Correct me if I'm wrong here but Carrie Fisher wasn't de-aged. Instead they used a stand in actor and digitally superimposed a young Carrie Fisher face over the actor's face.

I have no problems with it as long as it's not obvious and then becomes a distraction. How long before we won't need actors at all?

I was blown away by the original Alien (1979). It was one of the last films I ever saw in a theater & I was in the front row. When John Hurt's character got face palmed by that yip-yip, I just about lost it. The effect is nowhere near as good on a home screen.

I thought the Prometheus (2012) revival of the story was outstanding & I will continue to follow the franchise until they end. Not all have been stellar. Alien 3 (1992) was a complete waste due to Ridley Scott allowing Sigourney Weaver's anti-gun bias to almost entirely remove weapons from the film, making it a long, dry, dialogue intense, social commentary that didn't impress the audience, at all. Aliens/Alien  2 (1986) was an excellent sequel that was as good as, if not better than, the original, except for the constant squealing of 'Newt' throughout. The extended version is far better. Bill Paxton's role (may he RIP) was outstanding in that one & defined him as an actor, as far as I'm concerned.

I never miss a Alien film, I even liked the Alien vs Predator films even though the second one is not so good.

I have all the original Alien films on DVD via the nine disc box set and in addition I have 1 & 2 on Blu-ray as well as Prometheus, I see no need for the last two on Blu as they were not that good on DVD lol.
