Mr. Robot series

Postby chouette » Jan Tue 10, 2017 2:57 am

My new project will be for the 2 seasons of MR. ROBOT. So here is season 1. I will make a few changes on the stills (waiting on my teacher, lol), but basically, that's what I'm going for. If anything needs to be changed or modified, please let me know. Thanks!

Yup very nice, I'm working on your tutorial but I think you might do this for the stills on this one, just some vertical lines off the SF box as dividers? :-)

Here is Season 2 (updated Season 1 to match this). I noticed that the red box for the Bonus Features was not the same red as the title so I changed it to that color. I wanted to make the lines like CT suggested but for the life of me, I wasn't able to complete these lines. I've been doing it fine since he showed me, but it just won't cooperate with these covers. I think I broke my Photoshop, lol

Anyway, I went with the Stroke option and it came out fine. When Plan A doesn't work, go with Plan B. I still need to find out what the heck I did, but I've spent enough time for this stupid line thingy for one night. To be honest, I don't really like to work on a white background either. This might be my first and last try with Photoshop.

If you think of anything I should change before I upload them both, let me know. Thanks.

Just spitballin' here, but you've mentioned the stark white & I was wondering if there's a way to give the white a grain or texture that would make it less stark. Not anything really apparent, but a slight roughness like parchment or something might make it less bleak. I personally don't mind the plain white, but I think it should be possible to put in a layer with a texture on the white but under everything else?

I know, I don't know anything about PhotoShop, so keep my pie hole shut.  :-|

Nice job.  :-)

If you don't want to use a white background you could always try matching the spine and back colors to the front image.

Ah Fog, you know I value your opinions, so don’t keep your pie hole shut, lol – I’ve tried a few options such as putting a little tint of red from my title but that turned out pink, didn’t want that for this series, that’s for sure. I believe it needs to be a very light color.

I can also do as you suggest Wys since that’s normally what I do. I’ll work around that and see what I’m able to accomplish or stick with the white and never go there again.

Yeah, I wasn't very clear because I don't know how to do it, but I've seen others adding 'grain' or 'texture' to solid areas. I guess you need an image with the grain or texture, I'm not sure. It shouldn't really change the 'color', just break up the plainness of the solid white, like a pebbled effect, something along those lines. Nothing so gross it distracts, but just to relieve the starkness. I'm pretty sure Wys & CT know what I'm talking about. I've seen them both do things along those lines before.

Alright, I've played a little bit with this and added 2 different textures. For Season 1, I've added the Stone pattern at 50% Opacity so it's not too dark. And for Season 2, I've added a subtle texture (#3) at 100% Opacity. I don't really see a big difference, but at least it's not "white". If you see a difference, which one do you think I should use for both seasons? Thanks again!

Season 2 with a subtle texture (#3) at 100% Opacity:

I kind of like the first one but really either works fine  :-)

Here is check list for your settings for making lines, you may have one or more these set wrong if you're not getting lines.

Oh wait, it needs to be set at "Shape"? My notes says "Path" and then click the “Shape” button on top to finish creating the line. That's how I was always making them. But the only problem with it now is that I can't chose my color. I'm able to change it after by clicking the fx / stroke and then change the color. If I chose "Shape", it will not keep my line.

A Shape and a Path are the same thing, the difference is one is filled (shape) and one is empty or just outlined (path).

You make a shape from a path by filling it with color, by selecting shape first you save the fill step.
