Oh...I'm shocked.  You mean they haven't perfected voice recognition.  I love Amazon but I think this is the wrong path for them to take.  I understand the reasons but I don't like it.  These devices are just too intrusive.

OMG, research on this thing is pointless. I don't understand the logic in that thing and what it does. It's being explained with weird words and acronyms, lol

It's one of many voice recognition artificial intelligence (AI) software platforms to process voice commands and allow us to "verbally control" devices, like computers, phones, cars, tv's etc.

Think On-Star without the human on the other end.

For example Microsoft is developing Cortana as the Windows voice command interface, Siri is Apples voice recognition solution and it is used on the current iPhones and other Apple products.

Alexa is the "intelligence" part of Amazons new Echo product which is the hardware and Alexa would be the software that simulates A.I. by taking your voice commands and doing online look-ups via local WI-Fi then processing your request if it's a task Echo can provide.

I don't use any of these voice command, not even on the Bluetooth connected from my cell phone to my truck. I used it a little bit at the beginning but when you tell it to call "Home" and it ask you "Do you want to call Huguette?" I'm thinking, why would it possibly associate those 2 together? They don't even sound the same. It might be my French accent, but heck, it still doesn't sound at all the same, lol

I used to have On-Star before in another truck, and it would do the same thing, so I rarely used it. At least now I can dial the phone # on my cell and use the Bluetooth to talk while driving (the dialing part is done when stopped, just thought I would clarify this, lol)

Under my usual paranoia, I have assumed that Amazon has adopted Alexa for the early MS Windows days. Alexa was a search service embedded in Windows 95 & up (not very well hidden) that did a lot of nasty background stuff while masquerading as a search utility. It was kinda MS's initial Cortana. NT pros were always sharing info on how to disable it. MS has been doing this stuff for a very, very long time.

This is just the beginning. Had the same problem with the net. My daughter typed in Hannah Montana and well, guess what the results were? I'm sure there must be some type of parental block of some sort.
