Oscar-winning director Gullermo del Toro has been developing a big screen adaptation of the classic Alvin Schwartz horror book series Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark for a while now. Well, the film project is now officially moving forward as Entertainment One and CBS Films have come on board to co-finance the movie!

I grew up on these books. I loved how freakin' terrifying they were! The combination of crazy stories and the nightmarish art was so much fun! As far as the story for the film goes, it's said to follow "a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town."

The movie will be directed by André Øvredal (Troll Hunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) from a script co-written by del Toro, Daniel Hageman, and Kevin Hageman. Steve Bertram, eOne’s President, Film, Television and Digital had this to say in a statement:

"(The film), led by the incomparable Guillermo del Toro, is such a chillingly fun ride that it’s sure to leave audiences around the world jumping in their seats. We’re thrilled to be joining Terry Press and her team at CBS Films, Guillermo, André Øvredal, and the talented group they’ve assembled, and look forward to launching in Cannes through our partners at Sierra/Affinity."

The movie is scheduled to start shooting this summer in Toronto, Ontario. CBS Films will distribute the film in the US through Lionsgate.

I don't know who wrote this but Toronto is a city IN Ontario. Unless the movie will shoot elsewhere in Ontario, which I doubt. Sorry, didn't want to shoot the messenger, lol

Filming is over and it will be released on August 9th in the USA.

Storyline
It's 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time-stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying tome.

.... and, yes, the movie was shot in Toronto, Ontario.
