My personal suspicion is that the producers & distributors probably figure the risk of copying is lower, since those who do so are less inclined to do BRs. Silly people.

It may also have to do with it being released on NetFlix. NetFlix has been trying to do away with their DVD distribution channel for years & this release is currently only available in BR, though they list the DVD as 'unknown' release date.

I've seen articles claiming it will be released on both DVD & BR, so it's probably coming, though I think they're testing the waters to see how popular it is on disc before they decide on a DVD release. It was very popular on streaming. I'd keep watching Amazon. I think it will show up on DVD, eventually.

That is the future, many thought VHS would be around forever due to so many consumers having them and it did take years to fully push them out but as you see they are fully extinct now, DVD is in that same phase out period it will become a thing of the past sooner than most would like to accept.

I see the DVD sections getting smaller and smaller in retail outlets as the Blu-ray sections continue to expand, these things don't happen overnight but it does happen as surely as time advances, all old tech is eventually abandoned in favor of new, does anyone remember reel to reel, 8-track, cassettes, laser discs...

Of course I remember them. I used them, in their time. The question is... does anyone still have any of them?

We are talking about retail not ownership, which big retailer still sells any of the above.

I see your point guys, but Blu-ray's are so much more expensive (in series that is). If they're testing the waters, they may want to lower the price. And as far as Netflix goes, we all know how much they suck here in Canada and why we rely on affordable discs when we can. Blu-ray's are still far from being affordable.

/end of rant.

In time they will be, 4K is already creeping in, they are the top of the price pyramid right now but the consumer base is smallest, that will change as more and more switch from standard Blu to 4K. Blu-rays the same price as DVDs are already starting to show up in local outlets, that is how it works every few years the next tech upgrade comes and the phase out of the old begins, manufacturers have to push consumers to the next tech or their revenue stream will shrink. Still they are smart enough to not try and do it too fast, it will be a gradual change just like the other formats have been slowly pushed out.

Good point but with the way TV's are made today, the picture quality is still top notch with DVD. Could not believe the picture quality from Netflix. Amazing!
