HBO - Game of Thrones - *Contains Spoilers*

Postby ctaulbee » Apr Fri 22, 2016 12:44 am

In the least surprising news of the year, HBO has officially renewed its hit fantasy drama "Game of Thrones" for a seventh season - just three days before the highly anticipated sixth season premiere.

The announcement however doesn't mention how many episodes will be included and HBO can't confirm the number at this time. Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss suggested last week there could be as little as thirteen episodes left to produce for the series as a whole after the sixth season - those thirteen would be split between a seventh and eighth season.

Writer-producer Bryan Cogman has spoken some more about the sixth season, saying the tone will be much lighter than the fifth. He tells EW:

"Season 5 was about taking characters to the brink - and for certain characters like Stannis and Jon, destroying them altogether. We left our central characters in huge moments of crisis and at their lowest points last year. All of them are now trying to rebuild their lives. Season 5 was in many ways our darkest. This season is still very dark, very intense, but it's very much a next act."

This many seasons in, you have the chance as a storyteller to draw on the past in a way we haven't been able to do before. There are a lot of thematic and explicit callbacks to season 1, and the seasons that preceded this one, and even to events that preceded them - in terms of the mythology. There's also a trend that began in season 5 and continues even more so in this season of worlds colliding, with characters meeting in hopefully very unexpected ways.

Seasons 2-4 were about the expansion of this world; seasons 5 and 6 are about contracting. Characters who were rivals, and in some cases enemies, are being forced to work together, which makes for a lot of juicy dramatic tension. And then there's the obvious answer in terms of the size of the show. We say this every year, but it's true - this is the biggest season of Game of Thrones. It took me by surprise, just how big it is - and I helped write it!."

The new season kicks off on HBO on July 16th.

So what does everyone think of Season 7 with one episode left now?

Season 8 next year will be the end and it will have 6 episodes who will sit on the iron throne at the end?

I am blown away by season 7 so far, only three more days till the finale. Love the set up for the the eight and final season. Can't even begin to guess who'll sit on the iron throne, I think Arya may not be who she appears to be.

We got totally hooked on this at season 3. We binged it from seasons 1 through 3, but we were too early & it's hard to stay involved when it's only 8 to 10 episodes each year. We'll have to go back & do a marathon through the whole thing, once season 8 finishes.

Contains Spoilers but this is the discussion thread so if you don't wanna know about the show don't open the thread

Personally I thought this season 7 was the weakest of all. Hope season 8 will give a satisfactory conclusion.

But we did see some incest. So Jon Snow's not really a bastard. Aunt Lyana got married to the mad king and his name is Agon Targaryan.

Anyone notice that Jon Snow went up north of the wall to the white walkers..came back...spent time talking to Cersi and the white walkers were still north of the wall?

I mean, by that pace they'll get to westeros in a year or more.

It took them a good long while to drag that big-assed dragon out of the lake alien! :D

Yeah but they were supposed to be coming down south way before the dragon was even killed. It was only Jon Snow's brilliant idea (that apparentlly led to nothing since Cersi isn't helping at all, just lying) that got the dragon killed in the first place.

Remember that was episode 7 or 6 and they were supposed to be coming down since the beginning of the season.

I did like the Littlefinger death. I knew he was gonna get killed. Not exactly at Aria's supposed summond. That took me by surprise.

One thing that also bothers me is the zombies are like 100 thousand as kaleesi said. So She could easily send up the 3 dragons and just attack the night king first with fire...night king dead..all of them dead.

even if she loses a dragon, 3 dragons will be more than enough to kill the guy.

Now they have 2 dragon against 1 dragon and their dragon can't die that easily coz it's dead

Yup lot of the show has been like that, kaleesi has been coming since season 1 but it took until season seven to get there...

I too liked the killing of him.

True my first thought was, it's easy to see the guys on horse back from the air why not fry them first...

A big bolt with a dragon glass tip will end his flying...
