Microsoft Paint is getting killed off...

Microsoft Paint is getting killed off in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Image

The era of Microsoft Paint appears to be coming to an end with the upcoming release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The image-editing application is officially being classified by Microsoft as a “deprecated feature,” as noted by The Guardian. That means that, come this fall, Paint will “not be in active development and might be removed in future releases.”

Paint has long been a mainstay of Windows, dating back to a 1-bit monochrome version of the program released alongside Windows 1.0 back in November 1985. Microsoft continued to update Paint throughout the years, and users have grown to embrace the limited set of features the image editor had to offer. And while it’s true legacy will always be associated as shorthand for poorly designed and badly illustrated digital art, it’s hard to deny the importance of the program as many users’ first interaction with creating images on a computer.

It’s not a super surprising move, given that Microsoft would logically be putting its efforts toward Paint 3D, the overhauled version of the original Paint that the company introduced in the Windows 10 Creators Update earlier this year. Also, just because the program is being listed as “deprecated” doesn’t mean that it’s gone for good just yet — there’s still no date or time frame for when (or even if) Microsoft intends to remove the application completely.

Still, it does mark an end of the road for the classic image-editing app. So later this year, when you update your computer to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, don’t forget to pour one out for Paint.

That's me as well, I have used it but on so few occasions and so long ago I can't recall any of it.  :)

Who needs Paint when you have Photoshop ay!? The only time I used Paint was when I got my first computer and drew lots of line and then filled the gaps in with colour! What a masterpiece that piece of art was :giggle:

There are millions of regular folk, like my 76 year old aunt, who know nothing else but Paint, for viewing digital images & acquiring scans, etc. It's always been there, always free, relatively usable, for the uninitiated & does a reasonable job, given their minimal demands. I think some of us forget how many folks out there don't even know what PhotoShop is, except that they've heard of it.

But It'll be replaced by Paint 3D, by CT's information, so that program probably does the same stuff as paint as well.

Have you looked at Paint 3D? It's nowhere as simple as Paint. Most people out there, who don't do this stuff on a daily basis, are barely able to navigate their way around Paint. They'll open that 3D crap, have a heart attack & never try it again. As usual, MSFT is taking simple functionality & creating another steaming pile.

Yeha but those examples have nothing to do with the programs being used. If everyone knew how to draw like those guys you could use anything. You could just draw on a piece of paper and scan it. One thing is knowing how to draw...other thing is what we do. Creating suff out of other stuff previously made

Say what? That’s just like Microsoft to be doing something like this. I tend to agree with Fog, it’s probably still being used by a lot of people and that Paint 3D will just be a whole lot of crap. I still use Paint for simple things. Yes, I know Photoshop would do it also, but that’s the way it is with old dogs and new tricks, lol

As much as Photoshop is the bomb and does so much, I can honestly say that I don’t know any of my friends and family that use it except for my oldest son and myself. For one thing, it’s very complex compared to Paint. Yes of course it does so much more, but most people don’t have the need to do complex designs. They totally rely on Paint though and have been for a long time. To kill it just proves how Microsoft has no clue what most of the population needs today. You have all these bunch of nerds deciding for people who probably only want and need simple software for everyday use.

/rant over, lol

That is a very cool video with Paint Stampe! I don’t think I would ever use it that way, but still. I love the background music, lol

Wow Sauron, I didn’t know Excel could do such designs! Obviously the person doing it is very, very talented.
