The Nadal–Federer rivalry is between professional tennis players one of the greatest in tennis history. They are in point of fact two of the greatest tennis players of all time.

They have been battling each other for majors titles for 15 years, first meeting in 2004.

Tomorrow at Wimbledon, for the second time in two months, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will face off in a Grand Slam semifinal match, this will be their 40th meeting overall.

They have a staggering 38 majors titles between them, Federer with 20, and Nadal with 18. They are first and second on the men's all-time list for the most majors titles, and hold numerous other records between them.

Together they have won 11 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, from the 2005 French Open to the 2007 US Open, as well as 6 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments on two occasions; from the 2008 French Open to the 2009 Wimbledon Championships and from the 2017 Australian Open to the 2018 French Open. They are the only pair of men to have finished six consecutive calendar years as the top two ranked players on the ATP Tour, which they did from 2005 to 2010 and seven times overall, including 2017. This includes a record 211 consecutive weeks sharing the top two rankings from July 2005 to August 2009.

In gusty conditions that were very tough for Federer's game, Nadal routed Federer en route to his 12th French Open title last month in the French Open semifinals.

This time the match is in Roger's house.

"It's grasscourt tennis and I'm going to come out there and play attacking tennis and if he can defend that, that's good," Federer told the BBC. "And if he can't, well then that's good for me.

"Obviously, I know people always hype it up in a big way. They did that in Paris again this year, we had some brutal conditions to play there, but it was a joy to play against Rafa there again on his court and of course I'd love to play against him here at Wimbledon."

Said Nadal, in typical understatement: "It's great, difficult to imagine. Of course excited to play against Roger here against at Wimbledon after such a long time."

John McEnroe, who won Wimbledon three times, picks Federer as a "slight favorite" based on the surface.

2008 was the last Wimbledon meeting between the two rivals. In a final considered by many the greatest men's match of all time, Nadal ended Federer's five-year run at the All-England Club, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-7(8), 9-7. Prior to that match, Federer beat Nadal in the 2006 and '07 Wimbledon finals.

Was a great match, these guys are warriors, will be a long time I'd say before two other rivals surface in tennis again, one can only imagine the titles each would have if it were not for the other...

Roger prevailed in the end but Rafael fought to the last point, was just great tennis.

Djokovic is waiting for Federer in the final now.

Novak is the reigning Wimbledon Champion and ranked number one for a reason, so Roger will have a massive challenge on Sunday.

Should be exciting as well.

Rafael Nadal was a man on a mission in New York. On Sunday, it all culminated with a fourth US Open crown as the Spaniard battled to the title in front of an electric Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Nadal outlasted Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 in four hours and 49 minutes, surviving a stunning comeback by the Russian. He made his opponent work for every point and overcame an aggressive Medvedev in one of the more gripping five-set finals in Grand Slam history. The tension boiled over as the 23-year-old rallied from two sets and a break down to force a decider. But, showing his trademark fight and unrelenting resolve, Nadal fought off his challenger to cross the finish line in thrilling fashion.

With his 19th Grand Slam victory, Nadal closes the gap to just one on Roger Federer in the all-time title chase. He also moves to three ahead of Novak Djokovic for solo second place on the list.
