The pet project of Soviet overlord Joseph Satlin, who excavated the site for diamonds, Mirny Diamond Mine is the world’s second largest man-made hole.

11. The Maunsell Sea Forts, England

Decommissioned in 1950, the Maunsell Sea Forts, located near the Thames and Mersey rivers, were errcted to help defend against German attacks during WWII.

12. San Zhi, Taiwan

This holiday park in Sanzhi were built as vacation homes for U.S. military officers posted to positions in Asia. A funding black hole caused the site to shut in 1980, before they were destroyed in 2010.

Wonder why the circular shape, straight lines are much easier to build, which makes it seem silly to make them a complex shape (construction cost would be much higher) unless there was a really good reason for it and I don't think it was for aesthetics as they look like crap.

With many of the tunnels partially flooded, and stalactites hang from the ceilings, these eerie subway tunnels lay dormant beneath Kiev, Ukraine.

15. Ryugyong Hotel, Pyongyang, North Korea

Perhaps a shining example of North Korea’s maniacal thirst for grandiosity, this imposing hotel was coated in a cool $150 million worth of glass in 2008, but has largely been abandoned for the past 16 years.
