The Witch (2016)

Postby ctaulbee » Feb Sat 20, 2016 9:13 am

Link to Pico's Previews Thread Here

Went and watched this with my sister last night, it's not at all what we expected.

First off it's not really a horror film more of a drama with some tension thrown in, it does have a few thriller moments and maybe one scene that will actually startle you in the whole film, gore wise it has a little graphic blood and some animal dismemberment.

Overall it is not very good, even borderline boring 90% of the time, it's mostly a whole lot of dialog scenes and worse all of that in the tongue of the period which also gets a little stale after a while.

I'm pretty sure it's not billed as a Art House film but it very much is one --so I would warn those who don't like these "artsy" type of films you really won't like it if your not into the whole hidden meaning, nothing explained, figure it out for yourself, feels like middle of the film ending stuff.

I give it 3 of 10 just because it is well made for what it is intended to be.  :-)

life on the line (John Travolta) 7/10 not a bad movie for a direct to dvd film

The Flash Season 2 9/10 loved every episode

Arrow Season 4 8/10 arrow kinda lacked towards the end this season, something was missing

Legends of Tomorrow Season 7/10 too much focus on time travel not enough on the characters and action.

Dirty Grandpa 5/10 just wasn't that funny to me, I didn't overly enjoy this flick

The Boy (2016) 4/10 the movie is kinda misleading and has a few scares but over all wasn't anything special

Krampus 1/10 just horrible and a bad movie, crappy story as well.

The Forest 0/10 another Japanese American horror film that wasn't scary and just plain sucked

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016)

To get away from her job and her depressive boyfriend, Kim Barker (Tina Fey), an American journalist, volunteers to travel to Afghanistan and the Middle East to cover the wartime conflict during "Operation Enduring Freedom."
She immediately encounters discrimination against Americans, a bevy of other crazy foreign journalists, and finds herself in the middle of explosive situations.
Based on the memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan by Kim Barker.

Rating:            R (for pervasive language, some sexual content, drug use and violent war images)
Genre:            Comedy, War, Drama
Directed By:    Glenn Ficarra and John Requa
Written By:      Robert Carlock (screenplay), Kim Barker (based on the book
"The   Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan")

Runtime:         1h 52min.

Paramount Pictures - Official Site

I went into this not really knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised, i really enjoyed this movie.
It wasn't really a comedy- more dark humor and a look at the bizarre culture of war reporting.
Tina Fey does a really good job of balancing reality with humor.
I didn't find it racist or insulting at all. They told it like it is.

I give it 7,5/10

Eye In The Sky (2016)

The moral implications of modern warfare are confronted in Bleecker Street's powerful drama, Eye in the Sky, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
Tackling an ethical dilemma in a thought-provoking suspenseful story, the gritty film stars Academy Award (R) Winner, Helen Mirren (Trumbo, The Queen), Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad," Need for Speed), Academy Award (R) Nominee Barkhad Abdi (Captain Philips),
Iain Glen ("Game of Thrones," Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) and the late Alan Rickman (Die Hard, Harry Potter) in his final on-screen performance.
Eye in the Sky "holds us in a vise and keeps squeezing" according to Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.
Directed by Academy Award (R) Winner Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Ender's Game) and written by Guy Hibbert ("Complicit," Five Minutes of Heaven), Eye in the Sky follows Colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren),
a UK-based military officer in command of a top secret drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya.
Using remote surveillance and on-the-ground intelligence, Powell discovers the targets are planning a suicide bombing and the mission escalates from "capture" to "kill."
But as American pilot Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) is about to engage, a nine-year-old girl enters the kill zone triggering an international dispute, reaching the highest levels of American and British government, over the moral, political and personal implications of modern military operations.

Rating:             R (for some violence images and language.)
Genre:             Drama , Mystery & Suspense
Directed By:    Gavin Hood
Written By:      Guy Hibbert
Runtime:         102 minutes.

Universal Pictures - Official Site

Good movie if you're interested in a fantasy view on modern international warfare, a debate over whether or not to bomb a house with 4 of the most horrible terrorists inside.
I have trouble believing this would occur; however, it was very well done.
Good performance by Helen Miren and by Alan Rickman.

I give it 7,0/10

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

In the wake of the destruction of Metropolis, the people try to determine whether Superman should be praised as a hero or if he should turn himself over to the authorities. Batman on the other hand sees Superman as a danger to everyone and prepares to take on the Man of Steel himself. On a side note, Lex Luthor plots to destroy mankind while mysterious Diana Prince/Wonder Woman pursues her own plans. Will one triumph over the other? Or will the world face certain doom?

Rating:             PG13 (for intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality)
Genre:             Action & Adventure , Science Fiction & Fantasy
Directed By:    Zack Snyder
Written By:      Zack Snyder , David S. Goyer , Chris Terrio
Runtime:         151 minutes

Warner Bros. Pictures - Official Site

Why? How? For who? was this movie made, just beats my reason.

I don't wanna put this movie six feet under but i have some problems with this movie.

Superman is some dude with superpowers who doesn´t do much just being Louis bodyguard.
Batman is just sick of being him, he's old but still tormented by the death of his parents.
Lex...oh lord where to begin, just awful.
Wonder Woman what the hell is she doing there?

Was this a great movie? No, was it horrible? No... But it could have been so much better.
The whole thing felt rushed and unsure of who it was, it just made no sense.

Don't get me wrong, there are good things about this movie i mean the action scene's ,however there are a lot of bad things and somethings just downright awful
I'm sure the comic book freaks will love this movie but the only thing that keeps popping up inside my head is why.

I give it 5,0/10

The whole concept is odd
In the next movie are probably Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg friends of Batman and Superman.
Together they will save the world but they will get a quarrel and that will divide them into two camps they will fight against each other.
Oops i'm 4 movies further now, hey this sounds all very familiar. :-?

Batman V Superman wasn't horrible but it needs a lot of work and they're rushing into adapting superman's biggest story to compete with marvels movies.

The Justice League Film should rectify what they did wrong with Batman V Superman. Everyone is cheering DC for being dark but dark only works fro certain characters. Superman isn't one of them imo.

I hated doomsday he was poorly done and his movements were almost identical to the hulks in the marvel films. Ben Affleck was an awesome batman and i like the casting of the film minus lex luthor that was just plain bad casting.

Smallvilles lex surpassed eisenberg without even trying. I'm also not sold on Ezra miller as the flash he seems like a big tool imo.

All in all Batman V Superman minus being too dark was much better than the 90's Justice League pilot. I think the creative team behind smallville should be assisting with Justice League related movies and Characters. Imagine that creative team with the millions of dollars for a major motion picture that would epic.

The Green Room 9/10 - Easily one of the best independent horror/thriller films in the last decade. It's a real shame Anton Yelchin died so tragically, he could have been a star.

Ghostbusters (2016) 8/10 let just say i was beyond dead set against this reboot however it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be and i don't view as a reboot more like a different version of the main concept. It reminds more of the first scooby-doo film than anything else. ghost effects were great.

Legend Of Tarzan (2016) 10/10 I enjoyed this movie so much it had everything i wanted to see in a Tarzan film and it wasn't another origin story it was set 8 yrs after Tarzan left the jungle and than returns home to help/ I wasn't sure about Samuel L. Jackson but he did an awesome job and Margot Robbie did a fantastic job as a Jane. best live action Tarzan movie Ive seen to date imo

The Legend of Tarzan (2016)

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

Rating:             PG-13 (for sequences of action and violence, some sensuality and brief rude dialogue)
Genre:             Action & Adventure
Directed By:    David Yates
Written By:      Adam Cozad , Craig Brewer
Runtime:         109 minutes

Lionsgate Pictures - Official Site

I really like this movie, new twist on story line....loved it!
I thought Alexander Skarsgård was absolutely brilliant, I loved the chemistry between him and Margot Robbie, and Samuel Jackson was almost better than usual.
Very adrenaline-pumping visual & sound-effects. Fantastic nature scene shown in the movie
I really enjoyed my experience, best movie I have seen this summer.

I give it 9,0/10
