When the husband of a biologist, Lena, disappears after going on an expedition into an environmental disaster area, Lena volunteers to go with the expedition tasked with finding out what happened to his team. Lena's team consists of a psychologist who leads the expedition, an anthropologist, a linguist and a surveyor. When they enter the area, they discover many fantastic alterations to the flora and fauna. They also discover that the environment seems to have a mind of its own. Humans are the interlopers and the enemy. Lena tries to find the answers she needs while struggling to survive "annihilation."
