Given that this is a continuation of the Prometheus series, I'm in. I really loved the opening scene of Prometheus. The rest of the film was OK, but nothing to write home about. I just really like the premise.

I haven't watched any of the Alien's movies, so I doubt I will see this one, although the trailer is very inviting.

Well, the Prometheus thing is kinda different & not just the typical Alien stuff. If you haven't seen Prometheus, you should.

The first one was another one of those movies that had three different versions - original, extended and 3D and then released them separately instead of an all encompassing collectors version. It was one of those rare films that worked well in 3D and the extended version was worth seeing also, so of course I had to get all three. It's annoying when they do this (I'm looking at you Avatar).
Spot on  :fogdude about the opening scene in the original and I was hoping for more detail or interaction with the Engineers, same with this new one also but ...

Need to play catch up. Have not seen many films as of late. Not sure about the whole Aliens things. Grew tired of it after the third film.

Well, that's because the third one was the worst one they did. It was the one where Sigourney Weaver insisted they do it without firearms. They turned it into a drama & it was a mess. They went back to the normal theme on the next one, though they did go a bit off the deep end at the ending.

These new ones, based on the Prometheus story, are different. You should give them a chance.

So Fog, are you saying that if we have never seen any of the Alien's movies that we can watch Prometheus and this one without having missed anything? And what do you mean by "these new ones"? Was there other movies between Prometheus and this one?

Prometheus is a prequel to the Alien films. It explains how things got started, leading up to the first Alien film. This recent release is a followup to Prometheus, still building toward the Alien series. That's what I meant by 'these films', though I haven't seen this one yet.

The Prometheus film is different than the original Alien films in that its main focus isn't the alien creature itself, so much, as it is about explaining how it all got started. To explain any further would constitute spoiling.

Went to the theater today and checked this out, not because I was particularly wanting to see it there, I just wanted to watch something and this looked like a decent choice.

It's fairly different from Prometheus in that this latest installment is more revelatory — and much, much gorier, I'm sure chouette will appreciate the buckets of blood they used up making this one, hence the R rating.

I don't want to get into spoilers but I will say this one is more Alien-like the dialogue however is often clunky and its plot repetitious, which honestly is not that usual these days.

All that said it is interesting and has a few surprises but the big sell is what it always has been, it's scary and splatter filled, which is all it really needs to be to hold your attention.

There will be a sequel, zero doubt of that, the ending is simultaneously a setup...

:)

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

Rated R
2 hours and 5 mins
