Storyline

A spin-off from The Vampire Diaries and set in New Orleans, The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world's original vampires: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt). Now Klaus must take down his protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), who is now in charge of New Orleans, in order to re-take his city, as he originally built New Orleans. Klaus departed from the city after being chased down by his father Mikael, while it was being constructed and Marcel took charge. As Klaus has returned after many years, his ego has provoked him to become the king of the city. "Every King needs an heir" says Klaus, accepting the unborn child. The child is a first to be born to a hybrid (part vampire, part werewolf) and a werewolf (Hayley).

Big fan of this series, if you like Vampires, Witches and Werewolves then this is for you.

My son eats this stuff up. I'm a little jaded on the vampire & werewolf stuff. I still catch an occasional zombie flick, though. I love post-apocalyptic films. Those don't often include vampires, but if they ever do that, I'm in.

Only down side to this show is the fact that they intro-ed all the key cast on the Vampire Diaries, beginning with the twentieth episode of the fourth season, namely called The Originals, which served as a backdoor pilot.

They were on The VD show for a while and much of the history is told on that show so watching the last of season four and much of (from what I remember) season 5 of the VD before starting this one would be advised.

Else it will likely be slow going trying to figure out the character interactions and why they are the way they are and act the way they do...

Last we saw the Mikaelsons, they were spread to the ends of the Earth in the name of keeping Hope safe. And as for Hope, she headed to Mystic Falls to give Caroline and Alaric’s school a try. But after a time jump, could the family reunite? The answer appears to be yes, but the real question is: Does their reunion put Hope in danger?

The CW has released the first trailer for The Originals’ upcoming fifth and final season, in which we get a glimpse at the Mikaelson family reunion, teenage Hope’s new powers, Hayley’s new friend with benefits (played by Torrance Coombs), and so much more. But as the trailer warns, the Mikaelsons getting back together will signal a “darkness like we’ve never known,” at least according to Vincent.

One person missing from the action: Caroline Forbes. At least for now.

The Originals season 5 premieres Friday, April 20 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

Well three episodes in and as with last season I'm not overly impressed, I just don't care for the new "Hope-Hollow Focused" story line.  This was the best Vampire show ever in the beginning but it's really gone to hell since season three, well parts of season four were pretty good too, still I'm glad they are ending it.

For the record I will continue to watch it though, in hopes that it will improve which I doubt but also becasue I have to see it to the end lol...

I haven't started season 4 yet as I was hoping to buy a Blu-ray copy like all first 3 seasons, but since this is still impossible, I guess I should get my act together and get the DVD instead... although your post is not very encouraging CT...

They have tamed it down quite a bit, the early seasons were very much focused on blood and gore, they still toss a little in here and there but not like they did, it's become more dribble dialog about relationships than anything now... seems to be the downward spiral that all shows eventually fall into just before they die.

You would think the producers would see it coming, it's been a fact of series production for a good many years now. If they were any good they'd say "hey guys you have to write interesting shit, these sappy assed love story arcs every week can't carry a horror series about vampires, werewolves and witches.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying it but that is what always kills the good shows in my opinion.
