BEOWULF - Return to the Shieldlands

Postby chouette » Nov Tue 08, 2016 3:33 am

I hope you are not tired of my cover's as I'm on fire! lol

This one, I might have to get a bit of your ideas. For a start, I would like to put something on the top of my cover pic to have some balance. I believe that's only a series with no other seasons so I can't really put a season number there, or maybe I should move up the pic? Also, I'm not sure about the writing at the back on top of the back pic. I would like to keep it, but something isn't right. Any thoughts? I used HelveticaNeue LT 47 LightCn Regular font for everything.

And of course, if something else needs to change, I'm opened to suggestions.

:-)

Cast names on the top front, the text at the top of the back is too much and too big, makes it unbalanced vs the right side text small and less.

I'm not fond of the guy on the top back being all blue/green, all the images on this cover are color but him, looks out of place like that to me.

Changed things and added cast names. I have no clue why I didn't think of the cast names, it was the most logical thing to do. I prefer the back pic that I have now because it blends better with the greenish background that I have. Should I add a critic at the bottom right or left? Your thoughts?

Looks good your doing very well little owl.

I'm not to keen on the title on the back, it's OK to put it on there, I'm just not fond of doing it, if you do leave it there, I'd move it down closer to the bottom where the image is darker and the contrast will be better (not real readable as it is), the design rule is to not place text on top of images ever or at least not in a focus area anyway, text should always be in a more neutral area of a image.

I agree with Ct. I don't think you really need any text on the back top image. However, if you still want it then as Ct suggested it would look better closer to the bottom.

One other small suggestion. It looks like most of your front and back images have a little noise on them. However, your spine does not. I'm just curious what a bit of noise on the spine would look like.  :-)

CT, I wasn’t too keen about the title on the back either, but it came with the pic. I guess someone out there doesn’t know the proper rules, lol – Let me see if I can find one similar without the title as I like this pic.

Wys, I’m not really sure what you mean about the noise on the images and how to apply it on the spine. Is this a simple thing to do (or explain lol)? I remember you talked about it on another cover, and I should have taken some notes about it, my bad.

Thanks guys, I will work on this later and get back. You are the best!

Yup, a lot of the images you find on the open web are fan-made, they are not done by professional designers working for the studios, so they are subject to be in any state or quality.

Thanks wys, I recorded this action and improved it a little bit... it creates the layers in a group and at the end it pops up a window so you can set the opacity, very easy just install it, select it and press play.

You can download it from the resources.

That video was totally confusing to me, I stopped half-way, sorry Wys. :-((

I will try and figure out what CT posted, but I'm afraid I might opt to make more noise with my trumpet for the moment, lol

Looks good, but I'm gonna get really, really picky here: I think the back upper image is a little green compared to the front. I think a slight red shift would make the skin tones on the characters look more consistent. But that's just me. I think it's an amazingly good job, given the short time you've been working with PS. :-O
